Eskom Expo for Young Scientists

Eskom Expo for Young Scientists is a non-profit South African organisation which was founded in 1980. It operates in 35 Expo regions in all nine provinces and is managed by volunteers. Eskom Expo presents South Africa’s largest and most unique educational fair for school students from grades 5 to 12. It is endorsed by the Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Basic Education.
The Eskom Expo affords school students the unique opportunity of showcasing their innovation and ingenuity through projects selected from 13 categories, the focus areas being STEMI (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation). It creates a platform for growth and serves as a catchment for future scientists, researchers and engineers. The process involves submission of innovative science and engineering research projects by our ‘young scientists’ to judges at school, regional, national and international levels.
Cape Town Region
We are responsible for co-ordinating, hosting, managing and judging local District Expos, and an annual Cape Town Regional Expo. Learners who perform excellently in the Region Expo progress to the Annual National Expo Competition. An outstanding Project Submission can afford a learner a chance to compete overseas at one of the many International Science Fairs.
Our Steering Committee comprises 19 members who are all volunteers from across the education sector. This includes WCED representatives, teachers past & present, head teachers and university academic staff.
